New Border Procedures Coming into Effect this January

customs declaration form

Please ensure you are ready for the new border procedures coming into effect at the end of January. These changes will impact anyone involved in the importation of plants, animals, and animal products. We are aware that EU suppliers may not be informed that they will need to provide Export Health Certificates.

Also, please be mindful of the changes regarding imports from Northern Ireland, particularly concerning the importation of foods and feed products. If you are concerned about this or are unsure about the changes, please speak to us.
Additionally, you may have received notification from HMRC that as of the 31st January the use of the generic 999L waiver for controls on goods at imports is ending.  This means that specific waivers may need to be quoted on import declarations instead.

Please be assured any clearances handled by ourselves are completed using the correct waivers.  However, it is advised that you check declarations completed by other brokers as use of the wrong waivers may cause delays to shipments or issues with HMRC.

Be aware that there are other changes regarding rules on customs clearances that will be introduced during 2024.
We will send out other bulletins when these are announced. Additionally, look for updates on LinkedIn and www.independent-freight.com

If you need training, please note that our sister company, Hooper and Co, can offer various forms of support regarding import/export training, application for inward and outward processing, customs warehouse authorisations, export licenses, and other areas. Please call or email us if you have any questions and we will be happy to help.
